Analyzers

An instrument or system which measures and detects chemical properties or composition of a stream is called analyzer. Selection of an appropriate analyzer requires many considerations such as process condition and analyzer limitations and application.

There is a wide range of analyzers available for a typical application. An engineer should select among them based on the application requirements.

To get the best performance of analyzer, it is usually necessary to use a sample handling system. sampling systems has many advantages such as: Providing better accuracy and reliability of measurement, extending analyzer life, Limiting analyzer maintenance and associated parts and labor as well as facilitating field calibration.

There are two major category of analyzers based on process fluid; Gas Analyzers and Liquid Analyzers.

Gas Analyzers

Tunable Diode Laser Spectroscopy Analyzer (TDLS)

  • Measuring the concentration of certain species e.g. Methane, Water vapor etc.
  • Very low detection capability
  • Possible to determine temperature, pressure, velocity and mass flow

Oxygen Analyzer

  • Measurement of proportion of O2 in gas or liquid
  • Zirconia oxide for non-flammable gases
  • Paramagnetic oxygen analyzer for measuring percent level of oxygen

Infrared Gas Analyzers

  • Measurement of trace gas by determining of absorption of an emitted IR light
  • Non-destructive analysis
  • CO, CO2, CH4, SO2, NOx etc.
  • Gas molecules interact with light only
  • Application in Direct Reduction units and Oil & gas plants

Gas Chromatograph (GC)

  • Used to determine organic compound in a gas that can be vaporized due to differencies in their partitioning behavior
  • Thermal Conductivity Detector (TCD), non-specific and non-destructive
  • Flame Ionization Detector (FID), most sensitive GC

CEMS (Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems)

  • Combustion control and monitor fuel gas for CO2, CO and O2
  • Continuously collect, measure and report the emission data
  • Insitu or Extractive types

Liquid Analyzers

PH and ORP Analyzers

  • Used to measure PH level of a solution
  • Heavy duty, high pressure capability
  • Gel compact electrode

Conductivity Analyzers

  • Measurement acc. to concentration, mobility and valence no. of Ion and Temperature
  • Contacting and Inductive types

Turbidity Analyzers

  • Measurement of Haziness of a fluid
  • Key measurement for water treatment plants
  • Wide selection of sensor installation
